Clerys Department Store, O’ Connell Street, Dublin 1
Clerys was a long-established department store on O’Connell Street in Dublin, a focal point of the street. The business dates from 1853, however the current building dates from 1922, having been completely destroyed in the 1916 Easter Rising.
During the flash floods of July 2013 the roof of the iconic Clerys Department Store collapsed causing extensive damage throughout the store. An intense brief was set to completely refurbish the entire store within a relatively short programme to have the store open again before the Christmas market. This was a unique challenge given the historical background of the store.
The architects, Jennings Design Studio wanted to maintain any original features in accordance with the conservation architects involved in the project. We were involved in completing the builders work throughout the store. This was a unique project and one we were proud to be involved with.
